The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Psalm 19:1 NIV Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth; break forth into joyous song and sing praises! Psalm 98:4 NIV Recently my wife and I redecorated our master bedroom. We wanted to put up some beautiful scenic photos so that when we first wake up in the morning and we go to bed at night we are reminded of the GLORIOUS works of our Creator. As I was going through my significant back-log of photos to find just the right three pictures, I was struck by the beauty of some of the amazing places I have been privileged to visit. As I stared at each image, I was transported back to lofty emerald mountain peaks, tranquil turquoise waters, and breathtaking magenta sunrises. I couldn’t help but take on a spirit of worship, and praise the Lord for the stunning GLORY of His creation. One of the things I love most about my calling is the opportunities I get to take people places that take their breath away. I’ve traversed many a craggy peak and deep valley where the Lord of all creation has spoken tenderly to His children through his handiwork to remind them of His sovereignty, His love, His GLORY. I am convinced we need wild untamed beautiful expanses that confound us with their majesty, and remind us how much more infinitely majestic our Creator must be. Deep within each human heart there is a longing for GLORY. We are desperately seeking for a beauty, a purpose, a destiny that is beyond ourselves. In the words of St. Augustine of Hippo, “Our hearts are restless until they find their rest in Him.” If we will only be still and listen to the song of creation we will find that every stately pine, ever towering rocky sentinel, and every fathomless depth echo the voice of the One who spoke them into being. They all point to a GLORY that is beyond our imagination. The most incredible thing to me is that this GLORIOUS being of light in whom there is no darkness came down and took on human flesh. He walked upon the very earth that He created, and He promises to walk with us from now on into eternal GLORY if only we will trust in Him.
